I was in the kitchen with my kids when the children’s song, “He’s got the whole world in his hands”, came on the radio.  To ease the anxiety of the morning rush, we will occasionally play music, and it also helps the kids learn songs that we learned as children.

The lyrics of this song that I’ve heard and sung countless times suddenly took on a new meaning to me and warmed my heart. How simple the chorus, yet how meaningful!

My God holds the entire world…the stars…the itty bitty baby…my family…in his hands.

How do we know that?

Remember the birth of Jesus when the news of his birth reached King Herod?  He asked the wise men to search for the child so that he could “go and worship him.” (Matthew 2:8).

We know the ruthless king had other plans in mind.

The Magi were warned in a dream not to go back to Herod and returned home via another route.

The enemy’s plans were thwarted.

Remember the unfair Roman trial that our Jesus endured?  He was despised and crucified on a tree despite his innocence.  The enemy thought his plan had succeeded.

But Jesus rose again!  He conquered death!  Jesus’ last words to Pilate before his crucifixion was, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above…”   Only God had final authority, not man.

The enemy’s plans were thwarted.

In Revelation 12, John sees an unusual sign in heaven. A pregnant woman and a dragon.  Unusual combination, right?  Many theologians believe the pregnant woman represents Israel who brought us our Lord and birthed Jesus and the dragon represents Satan.  The dragon wanted to devour the child, but the child was immediately taken to God’s throne after birth.

Safe…in the arms of the Father.

The enemy’s plans were thwarted.

You are a child of the Most High God!  Nothing, no man, no power, no law will destroy the kingdom of God.

When the situation around you seems lost or hopeless, and you feel that the enemy is stepping into your life, remember this verse: Isaiah 54:17,  “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.”

The enemy’s plans WILL be thwarted.  Why?

Because God’s got you in his hands, and he is in control of your situation.
