A few weeks ago, I was driving my father in law’s car when I noticed the clock had not been updated after daylight savings time had ended. I decided to take it upon myself to fix the time in the car while I was in the car. It was dark outside at the time, so the only lights in the car was the light that lights up the car’s dashboard and radio console when you turn your headlights on.

Because this wasn’t my car, I wasn’t totally familiar with how to change the time on the car. As I was stopped at a traffic light, I pushed the “clock” button to try to change the time on the car. The time started flashing, so I knew I was on the right track. But that’s as far as I got. With the time now flashing, I hit the up arrow and down arrow that I saw on the center display – nothing changed. I pressed the “skip” button both forwards and backwards to no avail. I turned the tuning knob, both forwards and backwards, and still nothing worked. I did this same exercise several more times, and getting the exact same result….the clock was still not correct. I remember saying out loud to myself….how can changing the clock in a car be THIS difficult? In my frustration I gave up on trying to update the clock.

A few days later, I was in my father in law’s car again, but this time, it was during the day. I looked over and the clock was still not updated. I almost instinctively pushed the “clock” button again to update the time, and was about to repeat the very same steps that I had done a few days earlier, even though I knew it didn’t work for me. I looked down at the center display, and in the light of day, I saw something that I didn’t see the other night when it was dark. There it was in plain sight, a small “H” and and small “M” on the buttons not far from the “clock” button that had not been illuminated during the night when the rest of the display had been lit up. Immediately, I knew that was the “H” for changing the Hour and the “M” for changing the minutes, and within a matter of seconds, I was able to update the clock’s time.

The solution to my problem was literally right in front of me during that first night when I drove the car. I just couldn’t see it. I needed the light of day to shine in order for me to see the solution that was there all along. This reminded me of the times when I try to be in control of my life and do things in a way that might seem right to me, but because I haven’t asked the Lord for His help in this area, I stay in a cycle of frustration, and I don’t get the results that I need.

I want to encourage you to press into God’s word and prayer, and let Him reveal to you the things that are hidden right in front of your eyes. You might be surprised at what you can see when the light of God illuminates your path. Daniel 2:22 says “He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness…” ~ Vijoy
